Pickleball Court Dimensions: Lines, Kitchen & Net
A pickleball court measures 20 ft wide by 44 ft long (6.10 × 13.41 m). The same playing rectangle is used for singles and doubles. These measurements describe the court lines, not the total space you need around them.

The court and the playing surface are not the same thing
USA Pickleball recommends a minimum total playing surface of 30 × 60 ft (9.14 × 18.29 m) to provide space outside the lines. When assessing a venue, also check obstacles, access and spacing between courts. Avoid placing court lines too close to a wall or fence.
How to identify the court areas
Start by locating the net and the two non-volley-zone lines. Then find the centerline dividing the service courts. The kitchen is not an area you are forbidden to enter: you may step into it to play a ball after it bounces. The restriction applies to volleys.
A quick check before play
- Make sure court lines are easy to distinguish from the surface.
- Check the center height of the net, especially with portable nets.
- Remove loose balls from movement areas.
- Agree which lines apply if you are using a multi-sport court.
For a first session, start with a warm-up and controlled rallies. A pack of AERO 40 balls gives you several balls for drills.
